Music service Deezer is adding audiobooks to the range, the company behind the app announced on Tuesday.
The company has launched a standalone ‘Audiobooks by Deezer‘ app in Germany, which is the first country it offered this content through its main service. Indeed, Deezer says that 19% of its monthly active users in Germany are listening to audiobooks already. The new app works for Deezer’s subscribers but not its free listeners. Users are given access to twelve categories, including fiction and non-fiction.
The company does not say how many books will be made available.
Customers with a Premium subscription can save the books on their device for offline listening.
Based on preferences and listening habits, the Deezer app will also recommend new books.
With the new feature, Deezer is ahead of its competitor Spotify.
That music service started last month with the search for a person who can lead the not yet existing audiobook division.
Because the streaming services offer little different from each other, the companies are looking for ways to compete with each other.
